This doll was created on the week of St. Patrick’s day, with that festivity in mind and for inspiration, a Leprechaun -- A leprechaun (Irish: leipreachán) is a type of fairy in Irish folklore. It is usually depicted as a little bearded man, wearing a coat and hat, who partakes in mischief. They are solitary creatures who spend their time making and mending shoes and have a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If captured by a human, the leprechaun has the magical power to grant three wishes in exchange for their freedom... I wanted to create a version of the mythical character to celebrate these Irish festivities that everyone enjoys too. This day is important for me since I was little, because my first name is Patricia and in Mexico it’s common to celebrate the name day a person shares in common with a catholic saint. These are nice and festive traditions. For some people it is even more important than their birthday. For this doll I handmade the hat, costume and shoes too. The doll had big strange feet and none of the regular Barbie shoes fit her. I added a clover on her hand too. This was a very fun project! |
